Call Me Hardy

Hardy is a Taiwanese-American, multi-disciplinary 3D artist and a UX designer with a love for art, music and games.

As a UW Tacoma Arts, Media, and Culture student, Hardy designed public art for Edmonds College and UW Tacoma, worked on research of LGBTQIA+ rights, and studied product design, graphic design, and visual expression. After graduation, Hardy received professional training in Blender 3D, anatomy drawing, and the Google UX Design Professional Certificate program.

Furthermore, as a student minoring in Applied Computing, Hardy leads research on techniethics in deep learning AI. Hardy’s initiative integrates inclusive design standardization into AI’s components, frameworks and tools. In addition, Hardy learned to integrate database management systems and deep learning AI into web design and UX design to better assist users in completing tasks more efficiently.

In Google Career's UX Design Professional Certificate program, Hardy learned how to integrate accessibility strategies into design systems and deliver multimodal experiences.

Hardy’s long-term experience as a student counselor and his experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) gave him a knack for building successful pathways for marginalized groups. Moreover, Hardy focuses on empowering communities and promoting equity in underrepresented communities through the integration of art and technology and outreach programs.

  • My full name is Jy Haw Kwan. It is pronounced Jee-How-Guan. Jy Haw is my first name and Kwan is my last name. In Taiwan's naming culture, people are accustomed to naming a person with two characters, which is called a "plural name".

  • Feel free to call me Hardy or Jy Haw! My English name Hardy comes from the British mathematician Godfrey Harold Hardy.

  • My family and I moved to the beautiful state of Washington from Taiwan in 2017 and settled in the greater Seattle area. I am honored to be an American citizen as of 2022.

  • I always believe that my interests in digital illustration, 3D modeling, and programming can perfectly combine art and technology and help others to make society a better place. User experience design is in line with my ideal vision and integrates cross-field professional knowledge and skills to make users' lives more convenient.
